Protecting the Caribbean’s Coral for Earth Day 2015
The Caribbean is known for its beautiful beaches and expansive ocean – home to some of the world’s most spectacular coral reefs. Knowing this, it is no surprise that the Sandals Foundation is dedicated to marine conservation and to celebrate Earth Day, the Foundation has pledged to give this cause a special push!
In celebration of Earth Day, the Sandals Foundation partnered with CARIBSAVE, the Coral Restoration Foundation, Bluefields Bay Fishermen’s Friendly Society and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries will combat declining coral reef populations through projects valued at more than $45,000! Included in these projects are fisherman trainings and the establishment of coral nurseries in Jamaica – expected to produce about 1,200 coral pieces each year!
Leading the charge in the Caribbean against overfishing, pollution and climate change, the Sandals Foundation is accepting the challenge of this year’s Earth Day theme: “It’s Our Turn to Lead”.
Adding to the Sandals Foundation’s already active marine sanctuaries, environmental awareness programs in schools and marine life awareness training – the Foundation is doing their part in protecting the Caribbean home of future generations.
Take a look below to get in tune with one of the Sandals Foundations latest marine conservation effort: the Sea Life Sanctuary!
